Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Medical Associates Pediatrics
What is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)?
A nurse practitioner is a Registered Professional Nurse who through advanced formal education is able to provide a wide range of health care services to patients. Nurse practitioners are skilled in physical examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of many common acute and chronic health problems. They teach about both health and illness and believe in involving you in your own health care.

What is a Physician Assistant (PA)?
PAs are medical professionals who have a masters degree and can diagnose illness, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient’s principal healthcare provider

Should I make an appointment or can I just walk in?
Our office is not set up for walk-ins. Patients should always call first and they will be given an appointment in a timely manner. We have time in different provider schedules to see patients acutely and urgently (when needed).

Do I need to call the office before I bring my child to the emergency department?
If you are having a true emergency, you do not need to call us. Bring your child to the closest emergency department or dial 911. True emergencies in pediatrics are rare, and we can usually see the child acutely. If the office is closed we can help you decide over the telephone if an emergency department visit is warranted, or we can give advice over the telephone regarding how to take care of your child until our office opens. We are available for our patients in the office or by telephone 24 hours-a-day, 365 days-a-year.

Do you take my insurance plan?
We accept most major insurance plans. Our office will submit your claims to your insurance company as a service for you, however it is you who contract with the insurance company. On your first visit to our office you must provide the insurance card. Co-payments are due on the day of the appointment. Please contact our billing department with any questions at: 978 514 6300 extension 7.
